The Enkrypt browser extension is free and available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Firefox, Opera and Safari. The safest install does not begin with a search engine result. It begins at the official Enkrypt site or directly in the browser's extension store, with the publisher confirmed as MyEtherWallet.
On Windows and Linux, use the browser extension. MyEtherWallet also lists a Mac app, but a random “Enkrypt desktop.exe” search result is not part of the official path. Read the desktop guide before downloading anything outside a browser store.
Before you install
A browser wallet is only as safe as the copy you install. Phishing campaigns often buy ads against wallet names, publish lookalike extensions, or send direct messages with download links. Take two extra minutes here.
- Type enkrypt.com into the address bar yourself, or use a saved bookmark.
- If you use a store search, confirm the publisher is MyEtherWallet, not a similarly named developer.
- Read the extension name carefully. Small spelling changes are common in impersonation attempts.
- Install in a browser profile you use for crypto, not a shared or work-managed profile you do not control.
Supported browsers
Store availability can differ by country and browser version. Start at enkrypt.com and follow the link for the browser you actually use.
Install step by step
- 01
Open the official download path
Visit enkrypt.com and choose Download. The site routes you to the extension store for your browser. If you arrived from an ad or a direct message, close it and open the site manually.Watch for: A store page with a different developer name, a low install count or a recent publish date.
- 02
Add the extension
On Chrome, click Add to Chrome, then confirm Add extension. Other browsers use similar wording. Read the permissions prompt before accepting.Watch for: A prompt that asks you to install a second unrelated extension.
- 03
Pin Enkrypt to the toolbar
Open the extensions menu (usually the puzzle-piece icon), find Enkrypt and pin it. A pinned icon means you can open the wallet without visiting a website.Watch for: Pinning is convenience, not security. Always check the address the popup belongs to.
- 04
Open Enkrypt and choose a path
Choose Create a new wallet for a fresh wallet, or Restore existing wallet if you already have a recovery phrase. Do not choose restore with a private key unless you have read the import limitations.Watch for: Restoring into the wrong wallet type can produce different addresses than you expect.
Create a new Enkrypt wallet
- Set a local password. The password unlocks Enkrypt on this browser. It must meet the wallet's strength rules, and it cannot be used to restore the wallet later.
- Confirm the password. Store it in a password manager if you use one. Store the recovery phrase somewhere else entirely.
- Write down the 12-word recovery phrase. Enkrypt generates a unique phrase. Write the words in order on paper or a metal backup. Do not screenshot, email or paste the phrase into a note-taking app.
- Complete the confirmation test. Enkrypt asks you to select words in the correct order. If you cannot complete it, restart with the phrase in hand rather than guessing.
- Finish and open the wallet. You should see an account and a network list. Add or pin the networks you will actually use through Manage networks.
The password is a convenience lock. The recovery phrase is the wallet. That distinction is the single most important thing to understand before moving funds.
Restore an existing wallet
If you already have a 12–24 word recovery phrase from a compatible wallet, choose Restore existing wallet, then Use recovery phrase. Enter the words in the original order, separated by single spaces. After restoration, set a new local password.
If you had multiple accounts in the old wallet, Enkrypt may offer a settings backup during restoration. Otherwise, add the accounts in the same order on each network. Imported private-key or keystore accounts do not live inside the recovery phrase and must be imported separately.
Your first safe transaction
Do not begin by moving your entire portfolio. Start with a small receive-and-send test on the network you plan to use.
Receive a small amount
Copy the address from Enkrypt, then compare the first and last characters after pasting it into the sending app.
Confirm the network
The sending platform and Enkrypt must both be on the same chain. A correct address on the wrong network can still lose funds.
Approve one step at a time
Read the fee and recipient inside the wallet prompt. Close anything that asks for unlimited approval without an explanation.
Common problems
The extension icon is missing
Open the browser's extensions menu, find Enkrypt and pin it. If it is not listed, the install may not have completed, or you may be in a different browser profile. Check the store page and reinstall if needed.
The wallet will not unlock
Check the password carefully, then use the wallet's reset option only if you have the recovery phrase. Resetting without a phrase makes the funds unreachable through that wallet. Enkrypt cannot recover the password for you.
A dApp does not show Enkrypt
Make sure the dApp supports the network and refresh the page after unlocking Enkrypt. Some apps only show wallets after a connection request. Never install a second unknown extension just to make one site connect.
The extension disappeared after a browser update
Browser updates can disable extensions or change permissions. Open the extensions page, check whether Enkrypt was disabled, and review any permission change before re-enabling it.
