Enkrypt questions
The questions people ask before installing Enkrypt
Direct answers about the desktop app, extension, recovery phrase, mobile availability, fees and safety. Updated October 30, 2026.
What is Enkrypt wallet?
Enkrypt is a self-custodial, open-source multichain wallet built by MyEtherWallet. It is primarily a browser extension and supports Ethereum and EVM networks plus Bitcoin, Solana, Polkadot and many other chains.
Does Enkrypt have a desktop app?
MyEtherWallet publishes an Enkrypt app for Mac on the Mac App Store, listed for macOS 12.3 or later. There is no native Windows or Linux desktop app in the official download path. On those systems, use the browser extension.
Which browsers support Enkrypt?
Enkrypt is available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Install it from the browser's official extension store through the download link on enkrypt.com.
Is Enkrypt free?
The wallet is free. You pay blockchain network fees when you transact, and third-party buy, sell or swap providers may charge their own fees. Enkrypt says it does not charge for sending or receiving crypto.
Does Enkrypt have a mobile app?
Enkrypt's official help documentation describes it as a browser extension and says it is not available on mobile. Do not install a phone app claiming to be Enkrypt unless MyEtherWallet announces one on its official website or verified channels.
Is Enkrypt a custodial wallet?
No. Enkrypt is non-custodial. The wallet generates and stores encrypted keys on your device, and you are responsible for the recovery phrase. Enkrypt does not hold your assets.
How many words are in an Enkrypt recovery phrase?
A new Enkrypt wallet generates a 12-word recovery phrase. Enkrypt can restore compatible wallets that use 12–24 words. Write the words in their original order and never share them.
What happens if I forget my Enkrypt password?
The password only unlocks the local wallet and cannot be recovered by support. If you have the recovery phrase, reset the wallet and restore it. Do not reset unless you have the phrase, because resetting removes the local wallet.
Can I use a Ledger or Trezor with Enkrypt?
Yes. Enkrypt supports adding Ledger and Trezor hardware wallet accounts. The device holds its own keys and recovery phrase; adding it to Enkrypt does not copy those keys into the software wallet.
Does Enkrypt support Bitcoin, Solana and Polkadot?
Yes. Enkrypt's product description lists Bitcoin, Solana, Polkadot and many EVM and other networks. Chain availability can change, so check the current list at enkrypt.com.
Is Enkrypt safe to use?
Enkrypt is open source, self-custodial software from the MyEtherWallet team. No wallet is risk-free: the biggest practical risks are fake downloads, exposed recovery phrases and approving malicious transactions. Verify the publisher, keep the phrase offline and use a hardware wallet for larger holdings.
Can I use Enkrypt and MetaMask at the same time?
You can install both. If they share a recovery phrase, they can derive the same accounts, but running both unlocked in the same browser adds confusion. Use one as your primary wallet and keep the other locked or removed when it is not needed.
Where should I download Enkrypt?
Use enkrypt.com, the browser's official extension store or the Mac App Store listing sold by MyEtherWallet, Inc. Avoid search ads, direct messages and third-party download sites.
